The best surfing spots in South Africa along the West Coast (so far)

We have been road tripping South Africa for the last 10 months now, mostly along the coast. While we were in KZN, our son went for surfing lessons and the feeling was so awesome, he kept bugging us to get to more surfing spots and surf again. We eventually listened to him and bought a surfboard while we stayed in Langebaan. So, here is a newbie's opinion of where to surf along the West coast, starting in Langebaan. 1. Langebaan We stayed in Langebaan for a whole month in November 2018. We surfed in front of Kokomo's restaurant, where the waves were small enough to handle... or completely non-existent. Langebaan is one of the best places to windsurf and kitesurf... but since we did neither of the two - it wasn't one of our best places to surf. If you are a newbie and wanting to surf, we would recommend going to Muizenberg for that. Langebaan 2. Finding King Shaka's Isivivane

In Zulu, the word "isivivane" means to "throw your stone upon the pile". Our book "Op Pad in Suid-Afrika" ( http://www.loot.co.za/product/b-p-j-erasmus-op-pad-in-suid-afrika/xhjf-2791-g650 ) also available in English ( http://www.loot.co.za/product/b-p-j-erasmus-on-route-in-south-africa/jvws-2791-g480 ) had a very short little paragraph under the section about Umzumbe (where we spent a week) telling the story of how King Shaka's "isivivane" was still at the spot where he made it in 1828.  It said that Shaka picked up a stone in his left foot, muttered a prayer, took it with his right hand, spat on it and put it on the ground. All of his men then followed suit and they created a huge pile of stones. This was in order to gain favour from the ancestors for his next invasion. (into Pondoland) We were immediately curious about this interesting place and I started googling for some more information. I came across this article on the Umz...

Week 49 - Oppad na Mosselbaai (vuurstorms, klipgolwe en ewige gebergtes)

Maandag was dit basies ons laaste dag in Stellenberg. Pieter en Declan het saam met ons vriend Craig gaan rotsklim en ek en Charma het gaan fliek. Ons het die nuwe "How to train your dragon" gaan kyk. Bo-op Paarl Rots  Declan het sy eerste "lead" ingekry op die "multi-pitch" roete. Dit beteken hy klim eerste en is verantwoordelik om die tou elke keer mooi in te "clip" in elke anker in die rots. Hy was op wolk nommer 9! Ek en Charma het lekker van winkel tot winkel gestap en onsself verkyk aan al die mooi goed. Na ons fliek het ons roomys geëet vir middag-ete, en toe kry ons 'n uber om ons huistoe te neem. Oppad na Riversdale het ons in Montagu gestop vir middag-ete Dinsdag het ons binne 2 ure gepak en alhoewel al ons goed kleintjies gekry het, het ons EN ons goed alles in die kar gekom. Dit is baie eienaardig hoe ons dit regkry om so op te gaar op hierdie padrit van ons. 'n Mens sou dink dat ons dit nou al sou afgeleer he...
