The best surfing spots in South Africa along the West Coast (so far)

We have been road tripping South Africa for the last 10 months now, mostly along the coast. While we were in KZN, our son went for surfing lessons and the feeling was so awesome, he kept bugging us to get to more surfing spots and surf again. We eventually listened to him and bought a surfboard while we stayed in Langebaan. So, here is a newbie's opinion of where to surf along the West coast, starting in Langebaan. 1. Langebaan We stayed in Langebaan for a whole month in November 2018. We surfed in front of Kokomo's restaurant, where the waves were small enough to handle... or completely non-existent. Langebaan is one of the best places to windsurf and kitesurf... but since we did neither of the two - it wasn't one of our best places to surf. If you are a newbie and wanting to surf, we would recommend going to Muizenberg for that. Langebaan 2. Jacob's Bay We spent a day or two at Jacob's Bay, where there are only a few people and houses, so it feels...

Week 25 - In Afrikaans (Garies, Vredendal, Calvinia, Nieuwoudtville)

Oppak is so 'n fees sonder die sleepwa. Maandag het ons tjoef-tjaf opgepak en pad gevat Garies toe. Die "locals" korrigeer ons vinnig as ons dit uitspreek met 'n "g" soos in "gras". Dit is "g" soos in die engelse "grass"! Die grondpad van Hondeklipbaai tot by Garies het ons mos toe al gery en die keer kyk ons toe mooi uit vir "Simson se moer" soos party hom noem. Ander noem hom "Goliat se albaster". Dit is 'n ronde rots wat in die middel van nêrens lê. Baie indrukwekkend en dit laat mens wonder hoe hierdie rotse en formasies daar gekom het. Goliat se albaster In Garies moes ons eers bietjie stop en werk doen. Dit was kokend warm (in kontras met die ysige koue by Hondeklipbaai die dag tevire) en ons het weggekruip in ons huisie met lugversorging in. Die kinders moes maar skoolwerk doen terwyl ons gewerk het en eers later daai middag is ons bietjie in die kar om die "Letterklip" te soe...

Making PROGRESS... little by little

So, we have quite a hectic list of things to get done BEFORE we can go on our ROADTRIP.. And in the meantime life keeps on happening and stuff need to get done. So these past few weeks were semi-hectic because Mr. Cloete was not at home for a while, and apart from having to do the home-side of things on my own (kids, dinner, etc) I also had to get quite a lot of work-things done on my own (meetings, deadlines, etc.) So anyway, a few highs from the few past weeks: Our president resigned! (***shouts of joy!!!***) It started raining in the Cape (could these 2 be related??) I went to the farm  We started exploring Pretoria! My little princess danced in a ballet in the State Theatre :-) :-) As far as our "to-do-list"is concerned - we also made some progress: Our beloved Kelina found another job and is happy: Kelina has been working for us ever since the little princess was 4 months old. So we have been quite emotional all week from just thinking that ...
